Autonomous driving systems cannot afford security vulnerabilities or operating system kernel crashes. Traditional automotive operating systems rely on manual testing to prove correctness; seL4 proves correctness through formal mathematical theorems.
The seL4 proof links three layers: an abstract mathematical specification written in Haskell, an executable C implementation, and binary assembly. Over 200,000 lines of formal proofs in Isabelle/HOL demonstrate that the compiled machine code strictly conforms to the mathematical model without deviations.
Because seL4 guarantees spatial memory isolation, capability non-forgeability, and termination of all kernel operations, common classes of cyberattacks—such as privilege escalation, stack smashing, and use-after-free exploits—are mathematically impossible within the trusted core.
